Character Designs.

This is the first sketch that I drew when thinking of the characters. He was going to be my killer and i also decided that the prisoners would have the ID number printed onto their face (tattooed). this was when i first started out using Photoshop and i decided to use 2 differetnbrushes for this image.

I always wanted my killer in the comic to be somewhat bald or have perhaps a mohawk aswell.

This is a femal character that I designed but i decided not  to use the female character as a main character in the comic. I have decided that she may appear in the prison scene. She was created with pen and ink and pencil for the outlined sketch.

This is the sketch of the scientist. he will be seen durin the prison scene and I will only show the front and side of his face, so I saw no reason to draw any more of him. Plus he is based off of my friend who I have taken photographs of .

This was a sketch that I did When thinking of a scene in the comic. It was when the killer goes to the house that he lives in in the future and there are people living there, sleeping in his bed. I do like this image due to the fact that the killer looks very scary and menacing.

This I decided may be the main character in the comic whos wife dies. I wanted him to have pain behind his eyes and also look quite scary (not to be messed with). I didn't colour him in becasue I still wasn't too sure and also I was already working hard on the tectures for the buildings.

Architectual Experiments.

I started out by drawing out the building, scanning it in then darkening the black and making the background more white. After that you can see that I placed the texture on top and multiplied that layer so that the outline of the building came through. I then began to rub out the texture that wasne needed which was on the outside of the building.

After I had rubbed out the texture from the outside I began to cloure in the wall just to test it all out. From the start it looked very good but I also wanted more tone and decided to use different brush tools to see what effect it would have in my work. I also think that even without coloure the building looks already more realistic with the texture.

This is the finished piece. As you can see I did used the other brushes on that wall which made the wall look rather rusted and does have a good effect but compared to the rest of the image does nt entirely fit in. For the actual building i just used block colours of different shades to create tone which worked really well. The sky was from a photograph that I had found and placed in the background.

This was the texture I used most of. It was found on the back of an etching plate, scanned into Photoshop and then lightened to look more like concrete.

For the second building experiment I placed the texture into the image and went over the whole image in one tone of grey. After this I began to use different tones for a more 3D feel to the image.

This is the finished piece. It's not one of the best that I have done but I feel that it does work nicely wth the texture and does have a comic art feel to it.

This was the texture that I used for the image above.

For this image I really wanted to see if I could use four different textures in one image without coloure and still see if it would look as though it was 3D. It does work quite well in my mind and I find that it somewhat resembles a black and white photograph.

For this image I again used more than one texture. I used 4 textures for this image and cut them up and placed them in different sections of the image like a sort of collage. I then when on to clouring the image in and useing different tones and shades of that colour. This was for my scene when they chase the killer through the abandoned apartment in the storyboard and I feel that it looks very good with the wallpaper hanging and the holes in the walls. Also I do like the plants and weeds that are growing from an unknown place.

For this image i used only one texture. this image took me quite a while becuse I had to keep makeing the colours darker because it was going to be at night in the comic book. The tone was also hard to get because the lighthous was origenally concrete but I feel that it does look quite aesthetic. The beam of light was done with a different brush tool and with the opacity changed to 50 so that you would still be able to see the stars through it. and the starry night sky was again an image that works well with the digital drawing.
